Project
The brief
GFE Power Products supply generators, and one of their customers was adding standby generators to ten facilities. Each site needed bulk fuel storage to keep its generator's day tank topped up, so GFE came to us for ten bunded generator feed tanks. This case study covers three of them, completed in September 2026 at GFE's base in Pershore, Worcestershire.
The tanks were heading overseas in shipping containers, which set hard limits on their size: no higher than 2,200mm and no longer than 3,900mm. Within that footprint each tank still had to hold 10,000 litres of diesel, contain any leak in its bund and keep the generators supplied with clean fuel.
We designed and built each tank to exactly 3,900mm long, 2,000mm wide and 2,200mm high, holding 10,000 litres of white diesel. They are fabricated from 3mm Grade 43A steel, with a 1,000mm deep cabinet at one end and a 600mm manway on top, and finished in blue grey.
Inside the cabinet are the fill point and 2" generator feed and return lines, so each tank can supply a generator's day tank directly. A Piusi OCIO level gauge shows the contents in litres, and a CTS multi-zone alarm warns of high fuel level, low fuel level and any fuel in the bund, which matters on a site where the tank may not be checked every day.
Summary
The result
The tanks were built in eight weeks and delivered by Hiab, ready for GFE to load into containers and ship abroad. On site, each one holds enough fuel to keep a day tank supplied so the standby generator can run whenever the mains supply fails, protecting the facility from a loss of power.
GFE Power Products are a regular customer, and these three tanks are part of a ten-tank order for their customer's sites.
