Construction sites run on fuel, diggers, generators, site cabins and welfare units all need a reliable supply, and running to a garage every day isn’t practical when a site might be miles from the nearest forecourt. That’s why on-site bunded fuel tanks have become standard kit on UK construction sites, and increasingly a requirement rather than a nice-to-have.
Why bunding matters on a construction site
A bunded tank is built with a tank inside a tank: the inner vessel holds the fuel, and the outer bund catches anything that escapes if the inner tank is ever damaged or leaks. On a site with heavy plant moving around, accidental knocks are a real risk, and a spill that reaches open ground or a drain can mean a costly environmental clean-up and a call from the Environment Agency. Site safety and fire risk
Fuel stored in the open is also a fire risk. Bunded tanks are built with fire safety in mind, flame arresters, vents and, on our tanks, 43A steel construction that holds up to knocks far better than plastic. That matters when a tank is sharing a site with welding, cutting and other hot works.
